Parveen Shakir (1952 to 1994) was a teacher and civil servant from Karachi whose first collection, Khushbu, made her famous in her twenties. She wrote about love from a woman's side with a frankness that Urdu poetry had rarely allowed. She died in a road accident in Islamabad at forty-two.
